Federación Interamericana de Empresas de Seguros, FIDES (by its Spanish acronym), has its roots on the First Hemispheric Conference of Insurance organized by United States, which was carried out in New York in 1946. At this Conference were invited the representatives of insurance companies from North and South America. Since then, these Conferences have been carried out every two years and they are useful as analysis forum on the insurance issue and its economic and social role in our region. The institutional formalization of Hemispheric Conferences and the creation of the first Regulations are within the so-called “Carta de Colombia” in 1967, when the ten basic insurance principles were adopted and which would act as action guide for the private insurance organizations in each of the attending countries.
